Week 3: 16 June-21 June

Wednesday, 18 June 2008, Film photography making a return

4 in a film photography competition and the others looking for 'reflections and shadows' (reflejos y sombra) on the side of cars, side mirrors of motorbikes, water puddles, mirrors nd anything else that reflect in the stores we passed (looked on by bewildered store holders), setting up their own shadows (which became challenging when the rain came)... they tried everything imaginable. Some are actually putting to use the "techniques" I've taught them, ie to take photos from different angles! Found Eliazib, Carlos and Syed (we call him chikito) lying tummy down on the ground taking pictures of pigeons!

Thursay, 19 June 2008, Reflejos y Sombra

Reflections and shadows continued with my morning class. "Be creative, don't take your own shadows!" I said, then all of them came back and showed me showdows of themselves... Benji (Ricardo) took about 10!! Best shot ever from Coral where she combined colours, lines and the reflection of Oaxacana architecture in the side mirror of a motorbike. Brillliant! Benji (Ricardo) was intent on taking a reflection of "something" in a bucket of water that he stuck half the lens into the water! All good though, both of them survived.

Friday, 20 June 2008, Ultimo Clase (Final Class)

Today is our last class where the kids get to run around mad (well minus one excursion where they can do that also) before the hard work begins next week in preparation for our exhibition in Oaxaca.

We headed to the local mercado (wet market), where our lenses were either coated with fish guts as the fishmongers showed off their stuff or with chicken blood as the chicken lady throws the chicken against the table as she chops them!

Saturday, 21 June 2008, Our Last Excursion: To El Tule & Mitla

With 50 tortas with pollo (chicken), jamon (ham), chiles (chillies) and quesillo (cheese) to fuel and refuel, our last excursion was a fun and memorable one. Where the kids were concerned, they all dispersed in all different directions as usual. There were however enough of us (adults) to disperse with them this time! Phew! From the massive centuries-old tree at El Tule to the underground tunnels and quarters at Mitla, we ended up with almost 10GBs of photos!

With that ends the photo-taking part of this project.

The photos selection process now begins!
